Directing and control of regional media in Czechoslovakia in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century based on the example of media reflection of culture events in Pardubice district

This dissertation thesis addresses the history of public relations of the Communist Party in Czechoslovakia in Pardubice district. It is focussed at the period of so-called normalization. Firstly, it discusses the historical context of the time for understanding the crisis of the system in 70s and 80s. The first chapters describe so-called Prague spring and military invasion in August 1968. Next chapters stress changes in politics and media after the election of Gustáv Husák to become First Secretary of the Communist Party in April, 1969. The second part of text is case study about Pardubice district. The main topic of dissertation thesis are newspaper of Pardubice district - Zář. But there are also chapters about radio, factory newspaper, regional Union of Czech Journalists or College in Pardubice and editors of student magazine. In the second part of case study attention is focussed on cultural section of newspaper Zář and its main topics - for example political anniversaries and the role of culture. In cultural section I analyze which information and how they were, or were not presented to public. Supervision and control over the media content was one of the main regime's tools to take over the culture area and its presentation.

The aim of this thesis is to study furniture production in Czechoslovakia during 60s-80s of 20th century, evaluate the benefits of this time period and specify progressive trends for current generation. Thesis is describing history and operation of the Spojene UP Zavody thorough the chosen period and particular changes of sector furniture lines. This work is further focused on contemporary furniture production inspired by this time period. In the second part of the thesis analysis has been made for proposal of furnishing element which continues in own proposal of selected sector line. In the end of the work creative solutions are described, followed by discussion and conclusion. Attachments, containing constructive solution of one furnishing element in designed sector line, list of material, calculation of technical-economic standard consumption of material and list of used hardware, are enclosed to the thesis.
Underage mothers of parental generation of 70th and 80th

This thesis is examines women who in the 70s or 80s become underage mothers. It tries to map out how these women perceive their life. It also investigates how negative assumptions about underage mothers agree or disagree with the specimen. First there is processed topic of underage mothers and their various aspects. It introduces the views of domestic and foreign authors on these girls. These views predicts a bleak and unsuccessful life to those girls. Another part presents era of socialism, which surveyed women grew up and became pregnant in. Next part describes the research methodology. For this thesis the qualitative research was chosen, specifically biographical interviews. The last part of the analysis is devoted to the research and specific findings. It introduces the topics that women talked about and which are very important to them. Research shows that the former young mothers perceive and evaluate their lives mostly positively. When comparing expert views on teenage mothers with the lives of these women, it is clear that the gloomy predictions of the authors didn't come true and women don't live in poverty and sadness. Conversely they happily spend time with their children and partners.
The Change of Media Image of Izrael in Czech Press at the Turn of 80ˇs and 90's

Thesis titled "The Change of Media image of Israel in Czech Press at the Turn of 80's and 90's" deals with the construction of the media image of Israel in the Rudé právo and Mladá fronta dailies using examples of news about the Lebanon War in 1982 and the outbreak of the first Intifada in 1987. The findings are then compared with media image of Israel in the Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny dailies and weekly newspa-per Respekt during the Gulf War in 1991 and the signing of the Israeli- Palestinian peace treaty in Oslo in 1993. Research is focused on vocabulary of the news and on historical and political context of Czech-Israeli relations in the eighties and nineties. There is also description of researched newspapers and Czechoslovak media environment and jour-nalistic production in this period. The research method used is qualitative content analy-sis. Media images comparison is based on the selection of specific excerpts from news-paper articles, with the emphasis on a wide range of thematic coverage in the examined periods. Josip Broz Tito in the perspective of selected yugoslav newspapers in the period of 1986-1990

This thesis is dedicated to the perception of the cult of personality of Josip Broz Tito by the yugoslav press (selected titles) in the period of 1986 - 1989/1990. The transformation of this perception in given time offers an example how political and social changes in Yugoslavia in the second half of 1980's might be seen. The perception of the cult of Josip Broz Tito in this thesis is documented in a chronological manner. All three selected newspapers (Vjesnik, Oslobodenje, Politika) are monitored simultaniously, so the perceptions from Zagreb, Sarajevo or Belgrade can be easily compared and diferences shown. The thesis contains five chapters, each of them describes a given period of time. Certain events with a profound influence on the perception of Tito's cult separates these chapters, some of them were described in special chapters.
The reaction of the Czechoslovak and East German leadership on the crisis of the 1980s

This B.A. thesis called "The reaction of the Czechoslovak and East German leadership on the crisis of the 1980s" deals with the situation in Czechoslovakia and the GDR, two countries similar in many of their characteristics, in the period of 1985-1989, when these communist regimes were facing a crisis caused by a complex of economic, social and political reasons. Firstly the main three fields in which the problems of both regimes manifested are defined - economic difficulties, relation between the leadership and the society and the crisis of elites. The thesis deals also with external impacts affecting those countries, which include particularly the changes in the USSR after the emergence of Michail Sergejevich Gorbachev. Further it decribes the form of the reaction on the effects of the crisis and the measures taken in this context. While there occured limited reforms, concerning especially the economy, inspired by the Soviet perestroika for the first time in 1987 in Czechoslovakia, the reaction of the GDR mainly consisted of maintaining the current course and of the effort to gain financial resources to keep living standards. Causes of Finnish Foreign Policy Transformation in Late 1980's and Early 1990's

This thesis focuses on the development of the Finnish foreign policy from the late 1980's to the early 1990's. Special attention is given to the role of the Soviet Union in this process. Other factors decisive for the change in the Finnish foreign policy course are also analyzed. Finland tried to ensure its security by pursuing policy of neutrality and at the same time developing especially good relations with the Soviet Union as a preventive measure. Mikhail Gorbachev changed not only the Soviet Union but also the dynamics of Finnish-Soviet relations. Finland was able to act more assuredly and independently, nevertheless its politicians still employed caution and well-established wait-and-see policy. The changing nature of the integration within the European Communities was another strong incentive to the foreign policy change. For there was a danger of isolation and disadvantageous trade condition if a small state like Finland opted to stay outside the quickly developing Common European Market and political union. Also in the early 1990s the Warsaw Pact, the Eastern bloc as well as the Soviet Union itself were dissolved, effectively changing the international world order.
